What do you think about buying this used car? 1990 Grand Prix?

October 21st, 2011 Monica 2 comments

Question by Bill: What do you think about buying this used car? 1990 Grand Prix?
I am capable of buyng a new and/or late model car, but after years of financial education I have learned it is smarter to pay cash for a quality used, cheap car.

I found a 1990 Grand Prix with the 3.1 V6 at a local big-name Toyota dealer, on their used car lot. Usually a dealer will not sell such an old car on their lot, but this car is immaculate. 70,000 miles, and the leather interior looks brand new. All options work (cruise, a/c, etc) and the power windows have strong motors in them. The car is one-owner and car-fax certified. Prev. owner put new struts in it before he traded it in. The dealer did some preventative maintenance, and this is where I have my questions. Of course it’s used so it will need something, the dealer replaced the oil pump, water pump, trans pan gasket, and rear brakes. Being a big name celebrity owned dealership, they said they liked the car enough not to auction it, but put a little work in it and sell it.

The private party book on the car is $ 2400 in excellent shape. They are asking $ 3800, I haggeled them down to $ 3000 and said I would sleep on it. I am hoping they call back with a better offer. They want over book because they put the work into it, and said that such an exceptionally clean 20 yo car is worth a bit over book, as book is a “guideline”.

I like the car, but I don’t want to make an “emotional” purchase. I’ve owned 3 early 90′s GM cars in the past and they were pretty good to me, especially the older style 3.1 V6.

Good car, or pass?

Car Auctions in Chicago – I Bet You Didn’t Know About This

June 28th, 2010 Monica No comments

Yes, few people know about this.

Did you know what hidden opportunities car auctions are? Let me tell you because I didn’t know either.

The idea came from cars that were auctioned in the well struck by recession area of Chicago: every day many cars are auctioned by the state. Those cars normally cost a fortune but here they are sold at only a small, tiny fraction of their initial value. Still there are not enough buyers.

Why ?

Because people do not know about car auctions in Chicago. I have a good friend of mine that bought a car that costs for 25K for less than six thousand dollars. If that is not a bargain, I do not know how to name it.

I started scouting the Internet for sites that offer information on the subject. Well one of the best offers was a site that offers some good information on the subject and then lets you find the best car for you.

It took me less than twenty minutes to find the bargain I was looking for over ten days. Do you know how difficult is to find a good cheap car ? It is almost impossible. However, because of the Internet this becomes increasingly easy.

You can even make money in the process. You can easily buy a car that costs almost nothing and sell it three times its initial price because people simply they do not know about these auctions. Well, in any case I wish you luck and I hope you find the car you are looking for.

My story was kind of sad and happy alltogether in a good way. If you want to learn more on this just follow the link:

Really, this is the place to go, it gave me a solution that I could not understand. For most people buying a car is a big deal. Well, bying and reselling the car at double the price is an even bigger deal.

Good luck with your efforts!

I am going to a police impound auction to buy a car for cheap and selling it for profit, is this a good idea?

What will this car sell for at auto repo auction.?

May 24th, 2010 Monica 1 comment

Im my area an auction every week sells 300-400 cars that have been bank seized. What do you think a 2003 cadillac escalade with 77598 miles would sell for. I just need a prediction from someone who knows cars or have bought them at a repo auction…..

Would this give me a good profit?

May 20th, 2010 Monica 1 comment

I am looking to go to an Auto Police Auction, and maybe buy a car cheap for say $500, say it’s an okay quality car, and i buy it for the $500 and sell it for say $1.200 on Craigslist, would this be a sufficient wa to make money?

Does anything change with the title when the car is seized? could i still get a profit if it had a reconstructed title, if I DID buy the car for $500?

Anything else I should know?
